DEAF SERVICES

EMPLOYMENT TRAINING & JOB PLACEMENT

Far too often, individuals who are Deaf are overlooked in the hiring process—not because they lack the skills or experience—but simply because of misconceptions about their disability. Communication differences or lack of awareness among employers can lead to unintentional exclusion, creating unnecessary barriers to employment.

That’s where AURORA’s Employment Services Program comes in. Our staff act as advocates and partners, working closely with both Deaf job seekers and potential employers to ensure success on both sides. We provide individualized support to help candidates prepare for employment—from resume building and interview practice to workplace readiness and confidence building.

At the same time, we educate employers about Deaf culture, workplace accommodations, and the capabilities of Deaf individuals. Whether it's ensuring access to interpreters, suggesting simple communication tools, or advising on inclusive practices, we help create environments where Deaf employees can thrive.

This dual approach—empowering the individual and equipping the employer—bridges the gap and dismantles the false notion that Deafness is a barrier to employment. We believe that with the right support, there are no real limitations. Our goal is not just to get someone in the door, but to ensure they succeed, grow, and feel valued in their role.
