At any age or stage of life, a loss of vision or hearing can impact overall well-being and personal confidence. AURORA’s services provide the individualized support, instruction and equipment needed to maintain the highest level of independence possible.
Low Vision Assessment
A personalized and comprehensive assessment is conducted to determine functional vision and address issues of lighting, magnification, glare reduction and in-home management. Referrals are made to community resources as needed to assist with the on-going management of vision loss.
Falls Safety Assessment
AURORA is a partner in the Step Up to Stop Falls™ Community Coalition and conducts environmental evaluation in and around the home to determine the level of falls risk. Safety recommendations are made and assistance with minor modifications is provided, as needed.
Training in Aids and Devices
Adaptive equipment can improve function and assist with independence with everyday life tasks. One to one training is available to learn how to use these aids and devices. Devices include such things as lighted magnifiers, glare reduction lenses, special phones, talking items and tactile modifications.
Referrals are made to community resources as needed to assist with the on-going management of hearing loss.
Support Groups for the Blind and Visually Impaired
If you are having trouble learning to live with vision loss, or want to meet other people who are also dealing with vision related problems, a support group can be a valuable resource. Family and community members are also welcome to attend.
All Aurora of CNY Support Groups for Blind and Visually Impaired are open to the public, however we request that you contact the group facilitator in advance if you are new so that we can accommodate all participants.
